This is a bit of brainstorming. Basically, I am looking to allow users to create records that have an expiry date (ie. once the date is reached, the record is unpublished or hidden). ContentBuilder views have a default Publish Down setting that can be set to a specific number of days. It should be possible, perhaps in the Content Prepare php code, to set this value based on a user-defined value in the record. However, this might not be possible here if the Publish Down can not be individual for each record.

I could also achieve the outward effect by implementing a default filter to exclude older dates from the view. I can use php in the filter to create that value, and this seems to work fine until I need to account for blank values as well (date not specified). I am not sure how to include blank entries in the filter, so that dates before the current date and blank entries are shown.
@range/date/to
<?php
$currentDate = new DateTime();
echo $currentDate->format('M-d-Y'); ?>
|{something representing a blank value. ie. leaving it empty doesn't work}

Has anyone else solved this kind of problem before or thought of another method?

Thank you for your time!

Hi,

oke!

Basically, I am looking to allow users to create records that have an expiry date (ie. once the date is reached, the record is unpublished or hidden).

hmm, maybe we can write some code in BF, after some specific date to wipe records from the database.

I have one question.

Do you want after a specific date to wipe all filled-out records or only selected?

Mirko

Since I will need the records kept, hiding or unpublishing them is the goal. This is why I think the simplest solution would be to figure out how to keep items with a NULL date value in the list.

The exact mechanic is that these records are for transaction items that have a specific Availability Date and Expiry Date. The Expiry Date is not required, leaving the item open-ended. Therefore, the filtered list needs to include all items that are not expired (ie. Items before their Expiry Date or ones that have a blank Expiry Date).

I have been experimenting with having a placeholder date for when a user doesn't specify one, but that is unappealing visually; not to mention confusing to the users. Is there any filter that can select empty entries?

Hi,

Is there any filter that can select empty entries?

You can filter your Views easily with the CONTENTBUILDER: ADVANCED SEARCH MODULE FOR JOOMLA! Download it from here:

crosstec.org/en/downloads/free/extension...oomla-%C2%AE-3x.html

When install and open the module you will see the "description" tab where the step-by-step usage tutorial is located.
You should also check the "Allow external filters" option in the views advanced settings for this module to work.

Let me know if you need help setting it up.

If you have more questions feel free to ask!

Mirko
