Mail is often (not always) NOT delivered, both to admin and guest email adresses. They dont't go to the spam foolder and no errors are found.

Now i want to activate SMTP Debug for the PHP mailer object so we can see if there are issues with the SMTP server.

Can you tell me which file to edit?

Hi,

if you need SMTP, go to->System->Global Configuration->Server->Mail settings->set mail for SMTP.

Let me know if you need more help.

Regards,
Tihana

I don't especially need SMTP. Current setting is PHP Mail.
I want to know why the current method often does not deliver email from BF.

I now know that my provider only has logging of those mails that were succesfull, but none at all of the ones that failed. So it seems that in those cases BF (or PHP mail) never reached the mail server.

If changing to SMTP helps in finding out, please tell me how.
Anything is welcome that may provide more info.

Hi,

for "real" logging, you would need to ask your system administrator to provide the spooler logs. Only then you can be sure if the emails have been tried to send out.

But that's not worth it in my opinion because it is way more likely that the local mail server that PHP Mail is using isn't either properly setup, leading to spam rejections on the receiving side. Or the receiving side doesn't "like" the appearance of the notification emails.

Since it is easier, I would first try the latter and adjust the email template.
Make it so that it uses html and contains useful content from your submission with a layout that looks more like an email a person is sending to another person.
Please see the various email template options you have in BreezingForms.

I know it sounds stupid but generic text mails like the default layout often look like spam to anti-spam mechanisms and using a different layout than the default often helps.

If things really stay the same after that, then you could try the SMTP route because this is basically the best option as it is like you would send emails using your normal email program, including proper setup (since admins focus on setups on these more than on php mail).

Regards,
Markus
