Tini created the topic: Firefox on Android cannot upload photos taken directly from camera

Hi,
I'm trying to send photos (using standard Element - File upload) taken from mobile camera, using Firefox browser: it simply send an empty file (zero bytes size) .

Instead, if I try to send a movie file (taken from camera on the fly) with the same form using Firefox, this one is uploaded successfully.

I also tried to upload images using Chrome, Opera or CM Browser and all work properly.

More, if I select a photo (or whatever file) from a folder of mobile, Firefox sends it correctly.

Am I missing something ?

Thank you

Hey,

I've tested this and indeed it does seem like it's not working on Firefox. But, it's not related to BF.

For example, when testing, I went to the Mozilla dev docs and even there, uploading from your camera doesn't work in mobile Firefox, but it works in mobile Chrome.

Please test it yourself and if you get different results, then we can discuss it further, but for now, my opinion is that this is a "bug" in Firefox, not BF.

Regards,
Darko

Hi Darko,

I tried to setup another form using a different product and the problem still persist only for Firefox (Chrome/Opera/CM are ok), so I think you're right : is a bug in Firefox for Android...

Thank you for your prompt response.

When you try to upload image file on the web page, you are asked to take a picture with your device's built-in camera. If a site wishes to use your microphone for communication, you may choose to share that as well — such is the case with sites using WebRTC. Firefox will always display a message asking for permission each time a site asks to add a photo or record audio. It never records audio, takes pictures or records video unless you opt-in each time it asks.

Hi,
the problem is one step ahead of your comments; Firefox is already "authorized" to use the phone's camera, simply it doesn't send a correct image (that is the image is "sent" with a zero bytes size).

I checked with different Android versions and I saw that this problem appears with Android 8.0 (e.g. with v.8.1 Firefox works correctly).

I remind you that the problem appears only when I'm trying to send a photo taken directly from the phone's camera; if you use a photo already stored in a folder, the photo is sent correctly.

Claudio
