gvannauw created the topic: use of variable in form

Hi,
I guess it must be possible to use a value that was entered in the first page of a form in a 'thank you' second page

On the first page, a user enters his details, like firstname, lastname, address etc and
the second page is a thank you page which I would like to personalize.

Suppose a user enters details like
firstname John
lastname Mcintosh

I would like to have the second page (thank you page) say something like

Dear John

Thank you for contacting us ..... etc etc

I tried with dear {firstname} but that doesn't subsitute the variable with the value entered...

Is above possible and if so, can you please tell me how?

Hello

this takes a little bit of custom code because on the Thank you page all user entered values are already saved to the database.

Please copy the following code into the End Submit Piece of the form:
//Include
$this->execPieceByName('ff_InitLib');
$session = JFactory::getSession();

//Get firstname value
$fn = ff_getSubmit('ElementName');

//Set session value
$session->set('fname', $fn);

Change ElementName to the name of the element where the users enters his firstname

And copy this into the Before Form Piece of the form:
$session = JFactory::getSession();
if( JRequest::getInt( 'ff_status', -1 ) == 0 ){
$val = $session->get('fname', $fn);
echo 'Thank you '.$val;
}

Let us know if that worked for you.

Rgds,
Mario
