Hello,

It's great to hear that you have successfully switched from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 and installed BreezingForms on your new instance. However, I understand that you are facing some issues with migrating your old forms to the new instance.

To answer your question, it is possible to export your old forms from the Joomla 3 instance and import them into the Joomla 4 instance with BreezingForms. BreezingForms has an export and import feature that allows you to transfer forms between different installations of Joomla or between different websites altogether.

To export your old forms from the Joomla 3 instance, you can go to the BreezingForms component and select the forms that you want to export. Then, click on the "Export" button and save the file to your computer.

To import the exported forms into the Joomla 4 instance, go to the BreezingForms component, click on the "Import" button, and select the exported file from your computer. BreezingForms will then import the forms into your new instance.

However, please note that there may be compatibility issues when importing forms from an older version of BreezingForms to a newer one. You may need to update the forms or modify them to work properly with the new version.

I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks
I see some other posts from Markus around deleting the old ff scripts and pieces when importing forms to J4 - when exporting should we include all the scripts/pieces from the j3 instance and import them into j4 in the package ?
If not, how do we handle specific calls to those scripts?

Based on your question, it seems like you are asking about importing forms from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 and how to handle scripts and pieces related to the form.

It is recommended to only include necessary scripts and pieces related to the form when exporting from Joomla 3 and importing into Joomla 4. You do not need to include all the scripts and pieces from the Joomla 3 instance.

If there are specific calls to those scripts in the form, you should update them to ensure compatibility with Joomla 4. It is important to test the form thoroughly after importing to ensure that it works as intended and there are no compatibility issues with Joomla 4.

It is also recommended to consult with a Joomla expert or the Joomla community for further assistance in migrating forms from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4.

Hello.

When you have upgraded from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 and PHP8, it is necessary and important to remove all scripts and Pieces from your configuration. These items are not PHP8 compatible and can only be upgraded by deletion / reinstallation. You then need to reinstall the PHP 8 compatible scripts and Pieces as Markus has indicated here:

crosstec.org/en/forums/41-breezingforms-...-upgrade.html#282285

If you have created custom scripts and parts, you will need to test them and if necessary adapt them to PHP8 and the new library (JFactory => BFFactory, JRequest => BFRequest).

Exporting forms from J3 for import into J4 is perfectly possible. You will need to ensure that the field validation scripts are correct and adapt them if necessary. It will also be necessary to ensure that, if these forms contain pieces, that they are adapted to PHP8.

Regards
Eddy

Ok, slight misunderstanding.

I have started up a new Joomla4 /PHP 8.0 site with BF for J4 and would like to use forms created in BF for Joomla3

I see that the normal package export/import system works fine, but I also saw a comment about deleting all the ff_ scripts and pieces when running a J3 package on J4 so I wondered:

If I am exporting a package from BF J3 for use on the new J4 site, I assume I exclude the scripts etc. right?

Then:
If I have form code that uses some of those scripts/pieces, what do I do?

I see what to do with JFactory => BFFactory, JRequest => BFRequest.

What about other calls and scripts I have used in code? (ff_nextpage(), ff_validate_page(), ff_getSubmit(), ff_setChecked, or ff_setSelected or ff_getElementByName() for instance)?

or JURI::getInstance() and sendMail()

and what about globals like _FF_DATA_VALUE and JPATH_SITE

Does BF J4 have its own script/pieces libraries? I don't see any libraries in the vanilla BF J4 component I installed.

Is there a document that lists the changes or the code to use in the J4 version?

I also would like detailed clarification on moving a form from J3 to J4. I have a form I installed 8 years ago that is working well thanks to various tweaks, scripts, and pieces I've installed on advice and tips I've received in this forum.
