There are several possible reasons why the captcha doesn't show up for some users.

The most common is missing True Type Font (TTF) support with your PHP installation.

In that case you can try to use the alternative way of displaying fonts in the Captcha image.

Open the file

JROOT/components/com_facileforms/images/captcha/securimage.php

Browse to around line 144 and change this
var $use_gd_font = false;

to this
var $use_gd_font = true;

If the Captcha is showing up, then your PHP installation doesn't provide TTF support.
You can leave it that way but it is suggested to enable TTF support, as it could be required for many other extensions as well.

If it still doesn't work and you use BF versions 1.6.5 and 1.7.0 BEFORE November, 27th, 2009 this could be a solution as well:

I have trawled through this forum and tried every suggestion or "fix" I can find but no matter what, I cannot get captcha to show.

I use ReCaptcha on parts of the same site (contact form for example) and ideally would like to use ReCaptcha all through the site but will settle for a working captcha of any kind for this component.

I tested virtually all the other free forms packages on the Joomla Extension Directory, and although captcha or recaptcha worked on most of them I kept coming back to this one as the forms part seemed to work best

Hoping someone can help as I am now faced with a choice of using a potentially lesser product from someone else but having captcha, or sticking with this one but having to make all my forms available to registered members only if I cant get cpatcha working.

sorry, but why did you give you 3 stars to the extension when you obviously have a misconfigured host???

however, there are dozens of possible reasons why the captcha doesn't show up, it is NOT the fault of breezingforms.

you could try to determine if it shows something odd when you check the chaptch image path directly in your browser.

you can also check your php error logs if your php installation is incomplete (missing GD, TTF or similar).

My host has GD enabled and captcha/recaptcha work for other extensions (including form extensions). However, as I said in my review and as I posted above, I keep coming back to this one as I have found it to be easier to work with and that with the exception of captcha it seems to work better for my needs than any of the others.

No disrespect intended, I do like your extension, and given that it is free and there has obviously been a huge amount of work put into it, I really dont want to be critical, but other extensions seem to work with captcha on my configuration but this one doesnt.

You are quite correct in saying it could be my hosts configuration, but from what I can see, they seem to have the requisite things enabled on their side. However, all I am looking for is some guidance on what else I might try. I spent a good few hours going through this forum long before I posted my review or my original reply and although a lot of people seem to have the same issue, there doesnt seem to be a definitive answer.

I will check this but any other suggestions would be welcome !

Thank You. This worked and I appreciate the answer.

I changed the file mentioned in that thread and without changing my form or doing anything differently on my host the original form I created now works and displays captcha.

Now to figure out if I can switch captcha for ReCaptcha ;)
