As mentioned before, PHP 7 promises a faster web. The guys from 1and1 (a major german hosting company) was so kind to test PHP 7 with Joomla! 3.4. The results are astounding.

While Joomla! 3.4 is not officially PHP 7 ready (but 3.5 will be in February 2016), a patch from Phil Taylor based on Michael Babker's Joomla! 3.5 changes gives us a glimpse of what to expect.

In their latest blog post about Joomla!, following facts are revealed:

  • Joomla! 3.4 runs 50% - 60% faster compared to PHP 5.6.x
  • Memory consumption dropped by incredible 75% (!)

See their measurements in the images below. They were doing the tests by Joomla's internal debugger (a great tool to spot speed issues) and it's already showing major improvements.

Since Joomla! is constantly improved, we can expect even better results in future versions of the CMS.

But what is more important: since Joomla! is used for websites that sit between casual and enterprise, it will increase its ability to handle even more complex tasks.

Joomla! can now grow even more with your requirements.
